L.C. Smith, 12 Gauge, "Lunch Box Special"

Our shop is located about 25 minutes from where the Hunter Arms factory stood in Fulton, NY.  Due to this close proximity, we quite often encounter unique and interesting guns and other items that originated from L.C. Smith. We received this gun for stock repair but ended up restocking it as the original was not a good candidate for repair.  A new stock was built to replicate the original and the forend checkering was recut.  No metal work was done. This gun is what collectors often call a "lunch box special" as it was put together presumably by employees using a mixture of parts that were scrounged or otherwise rejected.  It was obvious that it was built by employees as the parts were fit well but not one serial number matched throughout the gun and the engraved parts came from several different grades of guns.  This gun was made up with a Field grade frame and barrels, a Specialty grade top lever, Number 0 grade lock plates, an Ideal grade trigger plate with Hunter One trigger,  a Crown grade trigger guard, and Trap grade checkering. The gun also has an extractor forend with a banjo escutcheon and roller latch.  We installed an original Jostam Hy-Gun recoil pad for a period look.  A very neat piece of local L.C. Smith history!
